Integrated Shield Plans
Patients who have purchased Integrated Shield Plans (commonly called IPs) will be able to use them to cover costs of surgeries and procedures performed in hospitals or Day Surgery Centres.
The 6 Approved Integrated Shield Insurers are:
• American International Assurance International Co’s (AIA) HealthShield Gold
• Prudential Assurance Co’s PRUShield
• Great Eastern Life Assurance Co’s SupremeHealth and SupremeHealth Plus
• HSBC Life (Previously AXA)
• Singlife Shield
• NTUC Income’s IncomeShield and Enhanced IncomeShield
Co-payment
Since Apr 2021, a co-payment component of 5% was introduced. As such, IPs will cover 95% whilst the remaining 5% will be paid for by the patient. This 5% can be covered using Medisave up to limits defined by the Table of Surgical Procedures. (Please see the Medisave section for more information)
Outpatient Consults and Scans
Unfortunately, consults or diagnostic scans done as an outpatient cannot be reimbursed using IPs unless the consults and scans (eg MRI scan) were performed as part of the workup to a condition that eventually required admission. If the patient had purchased Personal Accident Insurance and there had been a history of an accidental injury, the doctor’s consult and scans will usually be covered and can be reimbursed.
MediSave
MediSave can be used to pay for an individual’s own / approved dependent’s surgery and hospitalisation. It can be used to cover the co-pay component of the IPs. The total amount that can be covered using MediSave depends on the complexity of the surgery based on a ranking known as the Table of Surgical Procedures (TOSP). This table ranks surgical complexity on a scale of 1A – 7C. The amounts claimable are as follow:
Table of Operations | MediSave Surgical Limit |
---|---|
1A/ 1B/ 1C | $250/ 350 /450 |
2A/ 2B/ 2C | $600/ 750/ 950 |
3A/ 3B/ 3C | $1,250/ 1,550/ 1,850 |
4A/ 4B/ 4C | $2,150/ 2,600/ 2,850 |
5A/ 5B/ 5C | $3,150/ 3,550/ 3,950 |
6A/ 6B/ 6C | $4,650/ 5,150/ 5,650 |
7A /7B/ 7C | $6,200/ 6,900/ 7,550 |
Outpatient scans can be partly claimed on MediSave up to $300 a year.

What is the entire payment/ claims process?
If you require surgery and have booked a date for it, the entire process is as follows:
Step 1:
Obtain a “Pre-Authorization” from your insurance provider (We will guide/ assist you on this).
Step 2:
Admit to hospital and have the surgery as planned.
Step 3:
On the day of discharge, the hospital will send your entire bill to MediSave and your Insurance Provider. All necessary deductions will be done and you will be presented with the bill. In most cases, the co-pay component will be fully covered by your MediSave. No further payment is required of you.
Step 4:
Discharge from hospital and be on your way to recovery!
If you are a foreign patient and have an insurance plan that covers you globally, please inform us. We will assist/ guide you along the process as to how to go about obtaining a Letter of Guarantee from your insurer and where possible, set up a direct billing arrangement with your insurer.
